Beaches

The coast of Languedoc is full of fabulous sandy beaches. The coastal towns of Palavas les Flots, Sète, Agde, Marseillan and Cap d'Agde are full of life during the summer months, but may be difficult to get to during high season due to traffic congestion. Valras Plage is probably the closest beach, accessible in c. 45 minutes. It is a good family beach. A good idea is to set off early afternoon, after the main crowds, and stay through to the evening, taking in a meal at one of the many local restaurants. Sète is a particular nice spot for an evening meal of local fish. If you want a quiet beach with few people you could head for the beach at Les Cabanes de Fleury or to the wide open spaces of Espiguette, near Le Grau-du-Roi; in both these spots you will find a much more peaceful and less congested environment, but where clothing may be optional!
